The Best Podcasts of 2022

2022 has now come to an end (hooray). I wanted to look back on (some of) the best podcasts of 2022. We've found some great news podcasts as well as continuing to listen to our favourite podcasts. I haven't ranked them from top to bottom, but just picked out some favourites that can hopefully help you to kick off 2023 🎉🎉. FT and Pushkin Industries joined forces to produce one of the best podcasts of 2022. This podcast dives deep into the ownership of the largest porn company in the world.

From its launch in August 2022, this has been my go-to podcast for analysis of current events/affairs. The hosts are excellent, all bringing something different to the table and it can even be funny sometimes.

One of the more crazy podcasts on the list, Robert and Susan Downey tell the mind-blowing, true-story of Synanon - one of America’s most cutting edge social experiments, turned into one of its most dangerous and violent cults.

2022 has been a wild year in politics both in the UK and abroad. Rory Stewart and Alistair Campbell were well positioned to cover all these events and they did it so well in this podcast. Great to listen to.

Tortoise Media smashed it this year with epic podcasts (three on the list!). Hoaxed is an investigation into one of Britain's most serious-ever conspiracy theories. A story about a modern-day Satanic panic.

A brilliant podcast which really captures you. It looks into the death of Christopher Allen, a war journalist who was killed in South Sudan aged 26. It follows his mysterious deaths and begins to uncover some scary truths. Gripping and thrilling.

One of the best podcasts, made even better by the wonderful host, Alie Ward. Learn about different ‘ologies’ as experts are interview on all things related to the topic of interest. It is fun, exciting, and an easy listen.

Ok, maybe this one just classifies as a 2022 podcast... but it was definitely one of my favourites. An unravelling story that with shock you again and again and again! It is about a tangled love affair that all started on Facebook.

China has been at the centre of news in 2022. Xi Jinping cemented himself as the ruler of China for the future. This podcast is fascinating, looking at the upbringing and life of Xi Jinping.

The Slow Burn podcast is a great one but specifically Season 7 really was amazing. It follows the women who fought for legal abortion, the activists who pushed back, and the justices who thought they could solve the issue for good.
